More about Greeneville Greeneville is a town located in Greene County, Tennessee. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 15,198. It is the county seat of Greene County6. The town was named in honor of Nathanael Greene; incidentally, it is the only Greeneville in the United States to have kept the true spelling — the other Greenvilles dropped the trailing e.
