Originally called Linkville when George Nurse founded the town in 1867, after the Link River on whose falls this city sits. The name was changed to Klamath Falls in 1892-3, and is sometimes called K Falls. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 19,462. It is the county seat of Klamath County6. The average household size is 2.36 and the average family size is 2.99. In the city the population is spread out with 25.5% under the age of 18, 13.1% from 18 to 24, 27.2% from 25 to 44, 21.5% from 45 to 64, and 12.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 33 years. For every 100 females there are 101.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 100.1 males.
