Norman is also home to the university operated Sam Noble Museum of Natural History, (one of the largest of its kind) and the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art, which made news in 2001 when it was given the Weitzenhoffer Collection, the single most important collection of French impressionist art ever given to an American university, including works by Mary Cassatt, Vincent van Gogh, Paul Gauguin, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, and Camille Pissaro, among others. The racial makeup of the city is 82.36% White, 4.26% African American, 4.45% Native American, 3.49% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 1.37% from other races, and 4.01% from two or more races. 3.89% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 38,834 households out of which 27.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.1% are married couples living together, 9.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 41.9% are non-families. 30.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.31 and the average family size is 2.93. In the city the population is spread out with 21.2% under the age of 18, 21.4% from 18 to 24, 29.1% from 25 to 44, 19.3% from 45 to 64, and 9.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 29 years. For every 100 females there are 101.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 99.7 males.
