More about North Bergen North Bergen Township is a Walsh Act township located in Hudson County, New Jersey. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 58,092. North Bergen Demographics As of the census2 of 2000, there are 58,092 people, 21,236 households, and 14,249 families residing in the township. The population density is 4,313.4/km² (11,179.6/mi²). There are 22,009 housing units at an average density of 1,634.2/km² (4,235.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 67.36% White, 2.72% African American, 0.40% Native American, 6.47% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 15.53% from other races, and 7.47% from two or more races. 57.25% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 21,236 households out of which 32.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.4% are married couples living together, 14.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.9% are non-families. 27.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.70 and the average family size is 3.33. In the township the population is spread out with 22.7% under the age of 18, 9.0% from 18 to 24, 33.1% from 25 to 44, 21.4% from 45 to 64, and 13.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 91.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 87.7 males. The median income for a household in the township is $40,844, and the median income for a family is $46,172. Males have a median income of $35,626 versus $29,067 for females. The per capita income for the township is $20,058. 11.1% of the population and 9.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 14.0% of those under the age of 18 and 14.5% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line. The high school is considerably overcrowded.
