There are 3,164 housing units at an average density of 758.8/km² (1,970.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the borough is 91.61% White, 4.16% African American, 0.24% Native American, 1.44% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 1.07% from other races, and 1.43% from two or more races. 2.84% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 3,028 households out of which 25.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.9% are married couples living together, 10.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 39.5% are non-families. 33.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.34 and the average family size is 3.04. In the borough the population is spread out with 21.1% under the age of 18, 7.6% from 18 to 24, 32.2% from 25 to 44, 21.4% from 45 to 64, and 17.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 91.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 87.0 males. The median income for a household in the borough is $45,148, and the median income for a family is $59,706. Males have a median income of $41,211 versus $31,927 for females. The per capita income for the borough is $24,434. 1.9% of the population and 0.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 0.8% of those under the age of 18 and 2.2% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
