More about Dunn Dunn is a city located in Harnett County, North Carolina. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 9,196. It is the birthplace of early rock and roll guitar hero, Link Wray. Dunn Demographics As of the census2 of 2000, there are 9,196 people, 3,797 households, and 2,422 families residing in the city. The population density is 572.7/km² (1,482.2/mi²). There are 4,100 housing units at an average density of 255.3/km² (660.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 54.56% White, 41.21% African American, 0.97% Native American, 0.60% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 1.28% from other races, and 1.32% from two or more races. 2.24% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 3,797 households out of which 27.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 40.6% are married couples living together, 19.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 36.2% are non-families. 32.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.35 and the average family size is 2.99. In the city the population is spread out with 25.1% under the age of 18, 7.8% from 18 to 24, 25.3% from 25 to 44, 23.5% from 45 to 64, and 18.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 79.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 74.2 males. The median income for a household in the city is $28,550, and the median income for a family is $39,521. Males have a median income of $31,029 versus $21,961 for females. The per capita income for the city is $19,178. 23.5% of the population and 19.6% of families are below the poverty line.
