More about Concord Concord is a city located in Cabarrus County, North Carolina, a suburb of Charlotte. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 55,977. It is the county seat of Cabarrus County6. Concord is home to Lowes Motor Speedway; Concord Mills Mall, North Carolinas largest tourist attraction; and a NASCAR Research and Development Office. It is also home to several NASCAR race teams, including Hendrick Motorsports and Chip Ganassi Racing. There are 22,485 housing units at an average density of 168.3/km² (435.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 78.83% White, 15.10% African American, 0.30% Native American, 1.22% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 3.35% from other races, and 1.18% from two or more races. 7.80% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 20,962 households out of which 35.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.7% are married couples living together, 11.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.5% are non-families. 23.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.61 and the average family size is 3.08. In the city the population is spread out with 26.2% under the age of 18, 8.9% from 18 to 24, 33.6% from 25 to 44, 20.2% from 45 to 64, and 11.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 95.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.8 males. The median income for a household in the city is $46,094, and the median income for a family is $53,571. Males have a median income of $37,030 versus $26,044 for females. The per capita income for the city is $21,523. 8.2% of the population and 5.8% of families are below the poverty line.
