More about Port Huron Port Huron is a city located in St. Clair County, Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 32,338. It is the county seat of St. Clair County6. The city is adjacent to Port Huron Township. It is joined by the Blue Water Bridge over the St. Clair River to Lambton County, Ontario. Port Huron Demographics As of the census2 of 2000, there are 32,338 people, 12,961 households, and 8,048 families residing in the city. The population density is 1,545.3/km² (4,001.9/mi²). There are 14,003 housing units at an average density of 669.1/km² (1,732.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 86.69% White, 7.74% African American, 0.87% Native American, 0.55% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 1.32% from other races, and 2.81% from two or more races. 4.28% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 12,961 households out of which 32.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 39.8% are married couples living together, 17.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 37.9% are non-families. 31.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.43 and the average family size is 3.04. In the city the population is spread out with 27.0% under the age of 18, 9.7% from 18 to 24, 29.6% from 25 to 44, 19.6% from 45 to 64, and 14.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 90.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 86.1 males. The median income for a household in the city is $31,327, and the median income for a family is $39,869. Males have a median income of $32,053 versus $22,113 for females. The per capita income for the city is $17,100. 16.9% of the population and 13.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 21.5% of those under the age of 18 and 14.2% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
