The city is located in the southwest corner of Muskegon Township, near the junction of US-31 and I-96, which marks the western terminus of I-96. The average household size is 2.42 and the average family size is 3.13. In the city the population is spread out with 25.8% under the age of 18, 11.6% from 18 to 24, 32.2% from 25 to 44, 18.0% from 45 to 64, and 12.4% who are 65 years of age or older.
