North Manchester Demographics As of the census2 of 2000, there are 6,260 people, 2,192 households, and 1,374 families residing in the town. The population density is 669.5/km² (1,735.5/mi²). There are 2,327 housing units at an average density of 248.9/km² (645.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 96.15% White, 0.93% African American, 0.27% Native American, 0.83% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 0.80% from other races, and 0.96% from two or more races. 1.74% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 2,192 households out of which 26.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.0% are married couples living together, 8.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 37.3% are non-families. 31.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.29 and the average family size is 2.85. In the town the population is spread out with 17.8% under the age of 18, 21.9% from 18 to 24, 20.1% from 25 to 44, 17.9% from 45 to 64, and 22.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 81.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 78.2 males. The median income for a household in the town is $35,448, and the median income for a family is $46,781. Males have a median income of $31,795 versus $23,388 for females. The per capita income for the town is $17,140. 8.7% of the population and 4.8% of families are below the poverty line.
