The city is the county seat of Lake County6 and was incorporated in 1868. On October 31, 1834, Solon Robinson and his family become first settlers to an area that later became Crown Point. Because of its location, Crown Point is known as the Hub of Lake County. The average household size is 2.45 and the average family size is 3.01. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 90.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 87.2 males.
