The city is the county seat of Lake County6 and was incorporated in 1868. On October 31, 1834, Solon Robinson and his family become first settlers to an area that later became Crown Point. Because of its location, Crown Point is known as the Hub of Lake County. The average household size is 2.45 and the average family size is 3.01. In the city the population is spread out with 22.5% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 27.2% from 25 to 44, 25.3% from 45 to 64, and 17.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 90.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 87.2 males. The median income for a household in the city is $52,889, and the median income for a family is $64,274. Males have a median income of $50,090 versus $26,669 for females.
