More about Warner RobinsWarner Robins is a city located mainly in Houston County, Georgia. In 1997, the city also annexed into neighboring Peach County, effective September 26 of that year. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 48,804. The city was originally named Wellston, which was nothing more than a train stop for local farmers. During World War II, in order to secure a military base, it was renamed after General Augustine Warner Robins. It was founded in the late 1940s and survived a direct strike from an F4 tornado in April 1953. The city is nicknamed the "International City"; this comes from the number of people that live here from all over the world brought together by nearby Robins AFB. Warner Robins Demographics As of the census2 of 2000, there are 48,804 people, 19,550 households, and 13,078 families residing in the city. The population density is 827.9/km² (2,143.9/mi²). There are 21,688 housing units at an average density of 367.9/km² (952.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 62.50% White, 32.09% African American, 0.30% Native American, 1.79% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 1.24% from other races, and 2.00% from two or more races. 3.80% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 19,550 households out of which 34.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.3% are married couples living together, 16.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 33.1% are non-families. 28.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.48 and the average family size is 3.03. In the city the population is spread out with 27.5% under the age of 18, 9.6% from 18 to 24, 31.9% from 25 to 44, 20.2% from 45 to 64, and 10.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 33 years. For every 100 females there are 94.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 90.1 males. The median income for a household in the city is $38,401, and the median income for a family is $44,217. Males have a median income of $33,030 versus $24,855 for females. The per capita income for the city is $18,121. 13.2% of the population and 11.0% of families are below the poverty line.
