More about RoswellRoswell is a city located in northern Fulton County, Georgia. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 79,334. Originally included in now-neighboring Cobb County, the city was founded in 1854, when the city charter was signed by the state legislature on February 16th. At that time, the nearest large town was the county seat of Marietta, a four-hour (one-way) horseback ride to the west, and residents wanted a more local government. The city was ceded by Cobb County to Fulton County at the end of 1931, in order to allow Milton County to merge and be contiguous with Fulton. Roswell Demographics As of the census2 of 2000, there are 79,334 people, 30,207 households, and 20,933 families residing in the city. The population density is 805.7/km² (2,086.5/mi²). There are 31,300 housing units at an average density of 317.9/km² (823.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 81.51% White, 8.54% African American, 0.20% Native American, 3.74% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 4.08% from other races, and 1.90% from two or more races. 10.61% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 30,207 households out of which 34.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.1% are married couples living together, 8.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.7% are non-families. 23.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 4.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.61 and the average family size is 3.07. In the city the population is spread out with 24.5% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 35.1% from 25 to 44, 24.7% from 45 to 64, and 7.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 100.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 98.0 males. The median income for a household in the city is $71,726, and the median income for a family is $85,946. Males have a median income of $54,797 versus $36,182 for females. The per capita income for the city is $36,012. 5.0% of the population and 2.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 5.1% of those under the age of 18 and 6.5% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
