Melbourne Beach Demographics As of the census2 of 2000, there are 3,335 people, 1,422 households, and 992 families residing in the town. The population density is 1,250.1/km² (3,243.5/mi²). There are 1,556 housing units at an average density of 583.3/km² (1,513.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 97.51% White, 0.09% African American, 0.12% Native American, 0.99% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.24% from other races, and 1.05% from two or more races. 2.28% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 1,422 households out of which 25.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.7% are married couples living together, 5.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.2% are non-families. 23.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.35 and the average family size is 2.77. In the town the population is spread out with 20.1% under the age of 18, 4.0% from 18 to 24, 24.6% from 25 to 44, 28.9% from 45 to 64, and 22.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 46 years. For every 100 females there are 103.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 99.3 males. The median income for a household in the town is $57,035, and the median income for a family is $62,139. Males have a median income of $46,424 versus $34,028 for females.
