More about Piedmont Piedmont is a small, rural town located in Calhoun County, Alabama. As of the 2000 census, the population of the city is 5,120. Many surrounding communities utilize the 36272 zip code as part of or the entirety of their postal routes, including Spring Garden, Rock Run, Knightens Crossroads and Nances Creek. The current mayor is Charlie Fagan, a local business owner who defeated all his election 2000 challengers with more than a 60% margin, eliminating the need for a runoff in a race with more than six candidates. The racial makeup of the city is 88.77% White, 9.38% Black or African American, 0.10% Native American, 0.08% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.43% from other races, and 1.23% from two or more races. 1.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 2,221 households out of which 26.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.5% are married couples living together, 14.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 33.3% are non-families. 30.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 16.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.30 and the average family size is 2.86. In the city the population is spread out with 22.2% under the age of 18, 8.4% from 18 to 24, 26.6% from 25 to 44, 23.9% from 45 to 64, and 18.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 84.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 80.4 males. The median income for a household in the city is $24,893, and the median income for a family is $32,163. Males have a median income of $27,274 versus $20,000 for females.
